This week, we were invited to what we thought was going to be a small party of 14 or 15 students. They asked if we'd be willing to sing a song for the group there. No big deal..... We'll just sing Rocky Top. So, we get there, and the party was being held in a huge auditorum with a huge stage! Thomas asked the girl that invited us, "How many people are you expecting to attend this party?". She said, "About 400-500, it's the whole freshmen class." ......oh my! So, we sat in the audience, because we were the 6th act. All the other acts were very rehearsed, wonderful performances. They took us backstage to a dressing room and to 'fix ourselves and prepare for our performance'. I guess because all the other performers had beautiful costumes and makeup. But we had on our jeans and t-shirt, like usual. :) Then they called us on stage, announcing us to the crowd in Chinese. They crowd was screaming and cheering like we were Johnny & June Cash. The next 5 minutes seemed like an eternity as we sang Rocky Top to 500 Chinese students! Luckily they were cheering and clapping, even though they had no idea what we were saying. Just like an American concert, people rushed the stage, giving us flowers and gifts, and wanting their picture with us! It turned out to be a great night, and we learned that things aren't always what you expect in China!
This week in class, we talked about American Movies, TV, and Music. We printed off lyrics to Rocky Top and played the song for them. Then, we had them all sing along. It was awesome! We felt like we were at a TN football game.....in China. It was interesting explaining the words, 'reckon, ain't, and moonshine still.' :)
Another great week in China, we continued to meet with those we are studying with. Our lives are enriched daily, as we see the passion the Chinese have for learning more about HIM. Doors continue to be opened for us to tell others, through tutoring, teaching, sports, and our daily living. Thank you very much for keeping us, and those we meet in your thoughts.

I am sure that there is something immoral about teaching an innocent bunch of students a prejudicial song such as "Rocky Top". This must be an attempt by Lane Kiffen or Pat Summit to recruit foreign players. Sounds like the NCAA should investigate this. We wish you well with the rest of your activities.

I hope your trip to Xi'an went well - it may take you a few days to rest up after a trip like that. You are going great and have no doubt planted a lot of seed and displayed a lot of good influence.
